Adhesives enabling floor recycling

An innovative adhesive system for vinyl flooring enables residue-free removal during renovation
and thus the recovery of valuable recycling material.

The vinyl flooring is bonded to the
subfloor with an adhesive applied to a
grid. The flooring and the grid can be
separated during renovation without
leaving any adhesive residue on the
backing and the subfloor. Minimal to
no preparation is needed for the next
installation. Compared to a standard
renovation process (primer, self-levelling
compound, adhesive) the new system
(adhesive, grid) can save up to 70% (5) of
the total carbon footprint.

• Recycling is one among several ways to save fossil resources.
• Around 200 million m² of vinyl (PVC) flooring is laid in Europe every year.
• A newly developed system of adhesive and special grid enables residue-free removal of the vinyl flooring after use, creating a valuable recycling material. This solution supports future recycling processes.
• In addition, the adhesive is made from 75% bio-based content (1), while the bucket is produced from at least 35% post-consumer recycled plastic.
