  • FEICA Guidance Paper 2016 - Specific Consumer Exposure Determinants (SCEDs).pdf

    Uploaded February 26, 2016

The SCEDs concept was initiated in 2012 and the activity has since been integrated into the "Chemical Safety Report/Exposure Scenario 2018 Roadmap" - action 2.5, to assist registrants with the next REACH registration deadline.

In this context the SCEDs facilitate the harmonisation and communication of the conditions of safe use of consumer products along the supply chain. Consequently, they document typical conditions of use expressed in a format that can be fed into the commonly applied exposure assessment tools.

SCEDs are intended to represent realistic assumptions for consumer exposure assessments, provided in the form of ‘factsheets’.

This document contains the four FEICA SCED-factsheets developed so far, that cover the following adhesive and sealant products: universal glues, glues for DIY-use, spray glues, and joint sealants

Given that SCEDs are meant to cover direct uses of consumer products/articles, an additional SCED to cover glues actively marketed for use by children is under development. Furthermore, a background document, aiming to justify our values, is also under development and will be published on the website as supporting paper.

Guidance on the use of the SCEDs is also available on FEICA's public website.

  • FEICA in the news - ECHA.pdf

    Uploaded February 25, 2016

ECHA Newsletter 2016 Issue 1, February: Supply Chain communication - help yourself, use the tools

ECHA, sector associations and EU Member States have worked for two years to develop tools and templates to improve communication on safe use in the supply chain. The work has got off to a promising start: new tools that help both registrants and downstream users have already been published and many more are in the pipeline.

In this article ECHA has interviewed Divina Gómez, Regulatory Affairs Manager at FEICA, about the use maps being developed for the adhesive and sealant industry helping them to prepare more realistic safety assessments for their REACH registrations.

  • Guidance at a glance - ES series (3) - The relevance of SCEDs to FEICA Members.pdf

For members Uploaded January 04, 2016

The third publication in the FEICA 'Guidance at a Glance' series on Exposure Scenarios (ES) explains the relevance of SCEDs to FEICA members and how they facilitate your REACH-requirements on ‘safe use’ communication.

Specific Consumer Exposure Determinants (SCEDs) have been called the consumer equivalent of the Specific Environmental Release Categories (SpERCs). They document the "exposure determinants” – i.e. the factors which determine the exposure to a substance – and offer more realistic data for use as "information input” in a consumer exposure assessment.

  • DUCC publishes new document on Safe Use of Mixtures (SUMI).pdf

    Uploaded January 04, 2016

DUCC published an explanatory document on "Sector Specific approaches towards developing and communicating information for the safe use of mixtures” which includes a template on the SUMI – the Safe Use of Mixtures Information, thus providing its members and formulators with an important tool for compliance with the REACH obligations in communicating safe use conditions of mixtures, as per article 31 (7) of REACH. FEICA is also working on the approach outlined in the document and, being a partner of DUCC, gave input to the guidance.

    Uploaded December 21, 2015

Overview of changes in FEICA SpERCs

In order to reflect improvement, the factsheets have been revised by the sector organisations, generally by reformatting and adding more detailed background information to enable its transparent application. Furthermore the SpERCs have been simplified. While the previous SpERCs still remain valid, the new revised SpERCs have assigned new version numbers (v2) to discriminate between the different assumptions made in both, the previous and the revised version.
