FEICA presents SPERCS Tool at MARII Summit in Madrid

On 16 October, Thorsten Wind, Vice-Chair of the FEICA Task Force on Implementation of the SPM Restriction, presented the SPERCS tool at the 2025 MARII Summit on Microplastics. The concept helps FEICA members fulfil reporting requirements under EU Regulation 2023/2055 on environmental emissions of synthetic polymeric microparticles (SPM). Based on FEICA SPERCs, statistical data, and sewage treatment technologies, the tool enables regional-level reporting, supporting compliance and sustainability in the adhesives and sealants sector.

FEICA Webinar - REACH Restriction on synthetic polymer microparticles: FEICA Guidance supports members with implementation

The webinar addressed the REACH restriction on synthetic polymer microparticles (SPM), highlighting its complexity and upcoming deadlines. Experts from the FEICA Task Force shared updates on the regulation and introduced a tool to estimate environmental emissions. The session aimed to help members prepare for compliance through practical guidance and cross-functional insights.

In case you missed the webinar, we have listed the key takeaways here:

    • Companies must meet two key obligations: (1) provide disposal instructions via labels, leaflets, or SDS depending on the user; and (2) submit annual SPM emission reports as well as polymer identities to ECHA by legal entity and use. The first report is due by 31 May 2027, covering 2026 activities. Requirements vary by supply chain role.

    • FEICA published its first SPM restriction guidance in November 2023, based on Regulation (EU) 2023/2055. It has since been updated with input from ECHA and the Commission. The guidance helps members understand scope, obligations, and compliance tools like the Use Map, generic polymer identities and emission calculator. The guidance is available in the Extranet here
