  Key takeaways:

  • A new REACH restriction on diisocyanates establishing information, labelling and training requirements was adopted

  • As of 24 February 2022, all diisocyanates containing products intended to be used in industrial or professional settings with a total monomeric diisocyanate concentration greater than 0.1 % shall be labelled as established in the restriction

  • As of 24 February 2022, suppliers should provide end users with information about the training on the safe use of diisocyanates

  • FEICA is making available a series of informative materials/tools to support the adhesives and sealants industry to convey the information to its end users

  • As of 24 August 2023, all industrial or professional user(s) OR supervisors of tasks involving diisocyanates, should have successfully completed training on the safe use of diisocyanates prior to the use of the substance(s) or mixture(s)

  • The industry is working together to develop the content of the training on the safe use of diisocyanates

  On 5 May 2021,  the European Commission released the new EU Industrial Strategy, which puts a renewed focus on the key ecosystems, including construction. FEICA, as member of the Construction 2050 Alliance, welcomes the priority given to the construction ecosystem as one of the sectors that faces the most important challenges in meeting climate and sustainability goals and in embracing the digital transformation.

  Defining the FEICA position in the context of the EU Commission initiative of substantiating green claims

  The legislative proposal on substantiating green claims aims at reducing ‘greenwashing’ (companies giving a false or misleading impression of their environmental impact). Currently there are more than 200 environmental labels active in the EU, and more than 450 active worldwide. The Circular Economy Action Plan outlined that the Commission will ‘propose that companies substantiate their environmental claims using Product and Organisation Environmental Footprint (PEF/OEF) methods’. This paper defines the FEICA position in the context of the EU Commission initiative of substantiating green claims.

  FEICA input after third CASG polymers meeting

  During the third CASG polymers meeting held on the 19 March 2021, the European Commission presented the document named ‘An initial thought starter on REACH information requirements for Unique Polymers Requiring Registration (PRR)’.

  After reviewing the document and in line with the discussions held during the third CASG meeting, FEICA PRR TF drafted a paper to respond to the Commission 'thought starter'. Paper also submitted to the CARACAL subgroup and available on the FEICA public website.
