Adhesives and sealants for sustainable development: Material efficiency

Well-established bio-based adhesives for bonding special shoe parts have been complemented by a new development with a bio-based content of >83%.

Replacing fossil-based adhesives with bio-based adhesives is one approach to reducing the global warming potential when using the right raw materials.

  • For more than 40 years, bio-based hotmelt adhesives (>75% bio-based) have been used in the footwear industry for the inner parts of the shoe.
  • Recently, adhesives have been developed for a laminate based on bio-based TPU and PLA with a bio-based content of >83%.
  • The mechanical and adhesion properties of the finished reinforcements correspond to those produced with existing reinforcements.
