Environmental Product Declarations (EPD)

What is the EPD?

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are independent, standardised documents that show the environmental impact of a product over its full life cycle. For construction products, EPDs follow the EN 15804 standard, but different national interpretations create inconsistent requirements across EU countries.

To support harmonised and comparable data for adhesives and sealants, FEICA, together with IVK,  EFCC and Deutsche Bauchemie, has developed three new Model EPDs. These sector‑specific, independently verified reference EPDs are based on representative or worst‑case formulations that capture the diversity of adhesives and sealants. Rather than assessing every single product individually, the Model EPD approach relies on representative or worst‑case formulations that reflect the raw materials, production processes and typical performance profiles used across the sector. This makes it possible to report environmental impacts in a way that is robust and scientifically sound, while avoiding repeated life‑cycle assessments for products that differ only slightly in composition. The underlying life‑cycle assessment data is developed using a harmonised methodology aligned with EN 15804 and is subject to independent verification.
