Standards
Background and general strategy
The adhesives and sealants industry works internally and in a coherent way on the development of standards, which will have an impact on the industry’s future. The European Commission is promoting a new approach, i.e. to minimise the number of legislative texts while enhancing the use of standard test methods. This is also a route to a global approach. For many years our industry, through its national associations, has been working tirelessly towards harmonising well written standards across Europe. FEICA acts as a coordinator for the benefit of the whole European Adhesives and Sealants industry. FEICA’s role assists in the development of common positions on standards, which are transmitted to the industry representatives in the national associations, who hold the voting rights via their National Normalisation Institutes. Indeed, on top of coordinating locally, some NAs are contributing financially to their respective National Normalisation Institutes for their members. The European Union has been working with national standards institutes and industry to harmonise Standards across Europe. The harmonising authority is CEN where FEICA has observer status.
